Learn essential phrases and everyday conversations to get by in Japan.

Japanese has polite (keigo) and casual (tameguchi) ways of speaking.
Native speakers often switch between them depending on who they talk to.
But don’t worry — if we’re friends, feel free to use casual Japanese! 😊
Polite Japanese is beautiful and respectful, and it can also feel warm and kind.
But sometimes, when used between close friends, it can make things feel a little formal or distant.
🔍 Real Life Tip!
In textbooks, “Konnichiwa” and “Konbanwa” are taught as common greetings. I use them when greet to people I’m not close with or to strangers.
But in real conversations between friends, Japanese people often say:
“Genki?”or “Otsukare~” 😄
Try those instead it feels more natural!
