Today, I wanna share what I like and don’t like about my country. After living 38 years in the Land of the Rising Sun, I’ve come to the conclusion that being born in Japan is like winning the jackpott.
That doesn’t mean everything’s perfect.
For example, the other day a couple of teachers from an elementary school and a junior high school were arrested for secretly filming girls and sharing the footage in a pedophile group. In another case, a junior high principal was caught for sexuallyl abusing his students. It’s absolutely outrageous and disgusting that people who are supposed to protect children and teach discipline would do something horrible. Cases like this keep happening, and what’s worse is that crimes like sexual abuse and voyeurism aren’t even categorized as felonies under the law. That’s why so many offenders keep getting arrested again and again.
What bothers me about Japan is that both the government and the people tend to resist change. It feels like everyone is too careful, and as a result, things move painfully slow—especially when it comes to legal reforms. Even when more and more people are getting hurt, change still takes forever.
Japan is so afraid of change that we almost never have a change in leadership. That’s why we’ve been stuck with the same useless government for decades—just sitting comfortably in power, doing whatever they want. No wonder the population keeps shrinking, our GDP dropped from second place, and salaries have barely gone up in 30 years. It’s honestly heartbreaking. The darkest part of modern Japan, by far, isn’t natural disasters – it’s politics.
On the flip side, being nervous about change and disrupting harmony can also help preserve traditions and culture.
There are so many outstandingly beautiful things in Japan like the food, the history, the nice people, the art, the nature, the cutting-edge toilets, the Kawaii culture, the Shinkansen, the anime, the spotless street, the safety, the crazy punctual trains….seriously the list never ends!!!! Me as a sucker for good food, I can tell you-Japan make your taste buds go ecstatic!!!! 😍😍
What I appreciate about Japan definitely outweighs what I find frustrating.
Understanding Japan deeply is a long journey — even many native Japanese people don’t know everything about our charming country. Neither do I
I’ll keep discovering more about my precious country.😎
